Using my experiences with depression to help a friend.
My best friend told me about the rough time he was going through, about the lack of motivation and direction he seemed to be going through recently. He proclaimed a certain jealousy towards me, how I “had everything and he had nothing”. And, in an instant, I knew where he was coming from; this is the exact same situation that I had been in for as long as I can remember.
It’s very startling and upsetting to see your best friend, one of the most optimistic and awe-inspiring people in your life, suddenly lose all ambition and hope to a crippling condition. Especially one that you yourself have fought against all your life.
Whatever might have brought this on is irrelevant; he is like a brother to me and I will not abandon him for anything. We will fight this together and, in the end, we will win. I shall never give up fighting for those I care about.
A friend in need is a friend indeed. As it should be.
